Hyderabad-based startup Grene Robotics has come up with India’s first 100% indigenous unified, distributed and wide-area autonomous ‘Drone Defense Dome’ called Indrajaal. This defense system will protect, a large area of around 1000-2000 sq. km per system against threats such as UAVs, Incoming Weapons, Loitering Munitions, and Low-RCS targets, autonomously.
The startup has developed extensive AC6ISRT capabilities in Defense OS after eight years of R&D backed by decades of system development experience for the armed forces. Grene Robotics advisory board consists of senior retired Defense personals like Scientific Advisor, Deputy Chief of Army Staff, BEL Director, and Air Force veterans.
Why is this critical
According to defense experts, Grene Robotics India must stop adopting reactive measures, embark on responsive and autonomous systems, and prepare for modern warfare. Manual weapons and point-based defense systems cannot fight current wars driven by AI and Robotics. The enemy has already started adopting technologies such as UAVs, Smart Swarms, etc. Recently, on June 27, 2021, Jammu Air Base was attacked by drones to drop explosives next to the Mi-17 hangar.
Point defense Anti-UAV systems will not counter and protect large defense bases, NCR, and linear infrastructures like international borders and sensitive areas against the threats mentioned earlier. A minimum of 300 systems will be required to protect the entire western border, which is financially not a viable option. On the contrary, 6-7 sectorally deployed Indrajaal systems with seamless connectivity can defend the entire western border.
How does Indrajaal work
Indrajaal uses 9-10 modern technologies powered by Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Robotics to identify, assess, decide, act, and evolve autonomously in real-time. Whether the threat is single or multiple or a combination of UAVs, Low-RCS, Loitering munitions, and such, Indrajaal can counter all such threats.
“Conventional defenses will be overwhelmed in a swarm attack scenario, and an AI-Enabled Autonomous Dome with its ecosystem of sensors and processing is the way forward. However, establishing a fully functional system is an evolutionary process and needs technology vision and user involvement,” said Wing Commander MVN Sai (Retd), CEO Defense, Grene Robotics.
