Vayudh, India’s emerging force in defense drone technology, has raised $10 million to revolutionize drone technology by advancing drone manufacturing, enhancing battlefield surveillance, driving UAV innovation, and launching India’s first precision nano drone and nano drone for modern defense missions.
The funding round led by Dharana Capital, with participation from Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal, Action TESA MD Ajay Aggarwal, Sumit Jalan, LetsVenture, and Navam Capital, aims to revolutionize defense drone technology, drone manufacturing, battlefield surveillance, UAV innovation, and precision nano drones.
Founded in 2016 by Tanmay Bunkar, Anuj Barnwal, and Sarita Ahlawat, Vayudh has quickly established itself as a pioneer in defense drone technology. With this fresh $10 million boost, the startup plans to deepen its research and development (R&D), scale its manufacturing capabilities, and expedite deployments across India’s defense forces.
Moreover, Vayudh’s success story extends beyond traditional R&D. The company has built an impressive record with its expertise in swarm drone systems, logging over 300,000 autonomous flying hours. This track record has firmly positioned Vayudh at the forefront of battlefield surveillance and UAV innovation worldwide.
Vayudh Launched India’s First Precision Nano Drone
Vayudh recently launched Atri—India’s first precision nanodrill designed for surveillance and reconnaissance missions, a significant milestone for defense drone technology. Compact yet powerful, Atri provides battlefield forces with unmatched intelligence-gathering capabilities.
This achievement follows Vayudh’s 2023 win of the prestigious iDEX (Innovations for Defence Excellence) grant to develop India’s smallest precision nano drone. These advancements reflect Vayudh’s mission: to deliver cutting-edge drone manufacturing solutions while championing indigenous innovation.
Tanmay Bunkar, chief executive officer of Vayudh, said, “This funding marks a pivotal step in our journey to develop Indigenous, cutting-edge defense drone technology of global standards. We remain focused on deepening our R&D pipeline and scaling manufacturing to meet growing demand from India’s defense sector.”
Expanding with Strategic Investment
While Dharana Capital led the latest round, influential backers like Deepinder Goyal, Ajay Aggarwal, Sumit Jalan, LetsVenture, and Navam Capital added critical support. Florintree Advisors had invested earlier, affirming long-term faith in Vayudh’s potential.
Vamsi Duvvuri, founder and managing partner of Dharana Capital, said, “India’s rising defense spend and push for indigenization have opened a rare window to build world-class defense tech locally. The Vayudh team brings exceptional technical depth to drone technology — their swarming tech is field-tested, mission-ready and built in India. We are excited to be part of their growth journey.”
Meanwhile, Vayudh’s parent company, BotLab Dynamics, continues to scale new heights. It generated INR38.4 crores in revenue for FY24, reinforcing its financial footing in a highly competitive global defense drone technology market.
Targeting Global Dominance in UAV Systems
Unlike many drone startups that rely heavily on foreign tech, Vayudh builds, tests, and deploys all its platforms within India. This homegrown approach enhances national security and offers Vayudh a strategic edge in a global race for battlefield-ready UAV innovation.
Facing competition from global players like UVify, Verge Aero, and Qianji Show, Vayudh remains committed to pushing the boundaries of indigenous drone manufacturing and battlefield surveillance technologies. Its focus on precision nano drones and scalable swarm systems places it in a unique position to meet rising demands from global defense agencies.
