At a time when Tesla has stalled entry into India to negotiate a better deal further, rival EV company Triton EV has decided to make its move. The EV startup announced it would soon start manufacturing and launch hydrogen-fueled two-wheelers and three-wheelers in India.
The announcement makes Triton EV the first auto manufacturer in India to foray into the hydrogen-run two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments. Triton EV decided to make this foray while India developed a green hydrogen and ammonia supply chain.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the National Hydrogen Mission in August 2021. Later in February 2022, the Union government announced the green hydrogen and ammonia policy to reduce the cost of renewable energy for the hydrogen industry, intending to reach the capacity of five million tons of green hydrogen and ammonia by 2030.
“Clean energy and tech are integral parts of Triton EV’s corporate vision. Hydrogen-powered vehicles are being considered the new-age mobility mantra. Since our priority is to drive the new age mobility, hydrogen-fuel-run vehicles are natural advancements for Triton EV,” said Himanshu B Patel, Founder and MD of Triton EV.
Triton is gearing up to capture the Southeast-Asian market
As India’s smart mobility is becoming a globally acclaimed success story, Triton has selected India for manufacturing and exporting hydrogen two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The manufacturing of these two-wheelers and three-wheeler hydrogen-run EVs will happen from the Bhuj, Gujarat facility of Triton EV. Triton did not disclose the launch date of their products.
Recently, it has established its comprehensive Research and Development (R&D) Center facility in Kheda, Anand District, near Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The facility is 1 lakh 50 thousand square feet in area. This R&D facility will also be used to develop two-wheelers and three-wheelers. This global R&D center of Triton EV’s entire R&D activities includes Triton EV Trucks, Triton EV Cars, and special-purpose vehicles.
Triton Electric has also signed an agreement with the Gujarat government to set up a commercial electric vehicle manufacturing plant at Bhuj in the Kutch district with a total investment of INR 10,800 crore. A few months ago, Triton EV acquired the 3.7 million square foot manufacturing plant in Bhuj, Gujarat, which AMW earlier ran.
As per the agreement, Triton Electric Vehicle will set up the plant over 645-acre land with an annual production capacity of 50,000 trucks. This manufacturing plant infrastructure is set to become the epicenter of Asia’s EV truck manufacturing hub.
R&D is an integral part of Triton EV’s culture, located in Indraprastha Industrial and Warehouse Park, Kheda, Anand, Gujarat, which is around 45 minutes from Ahmedabad and is well connected with the national highway- the Mumbai-Ahmedabad- Delhi Highway. The R&D facility is strategically located near Ahmedabad and Triton’s EV Manufacturing Hub, in Bhuj, Gujarat, ensuring faster decision-making.
