Bengaluru-based sports technology startup Str8bat has secured $3.5 million (about INR 29.4 crore) in a Series A funding round led by Exfinity Venture Partners to revolutionize cricket performance tracking through real-time data analytics with its smart bat, positioning itself as a leader in cricket analytics within the growing sports tech sector.
Additional participation came from TRTL Ventures, Eternal Capital, and VCats Group (which includes Venture Catalyst and VCgrid), alongside existing investors such as Techstars and SucSEED Innovation Fund. With this new funding, Str8bat aims to accelerate its product development, introduce new lines of sports performance technology, and expand its geographic footprint while amplifying marketing efforts globally.
“We aim to democratize sports and ensure that everybody who plays any sports has the capabilities to play better, whether at the elite level or at the initial level,” said Gagan Daga, cofounder and CEO of Str8bat.
Transforming Cricket with Real-Time Data Analytics
Founded in 2018 by Gagan Daga, Rahul Nagar, and Madhusudan R, Str8bat transforms the sports technology landscape by offering real-time data analytics for cricket players.
The company’s signature product is a sensor that attaches to the back of a cricket bat, providing real-time metrics such as bat speed, impact speed, and bat lift angle. These insights enable cricketers to fine-tune their performance by analyzing every aspect of their shots.
Str8bat has partnered with leading sports equipment manufacturer SG Cricket to launch the smart bat, known as the “smart willow,” which incorporates this sensor directly into the bat. Unlike traditional performance-tracking tools that require cameras or complex setups, this smart bat simplifies the process by embedding advanced technology within the bat itself.
Priced at INR 6,499, it offers cricketers across all levels—from amateurs to professionals—a way to track real-time performance.
“In a world where power hitting and innovative shots dominate, Str8bat’s cutting-edge insights are helping coaches, players and teams achieve superior performance outcomes,” said Shailesh Ghorpade, founding managing partner Exfinity Venture Partners.
Expanding Global Reach and Strengthening Industry Collaborations
Str8bat’s presence has snowballed, not just in India but also internationally. The startup already counts Cricket Australia and the professional cricket team Rajasthan Royals among its clients. While India remains its primary market, the company has expanded its footprint into Australia. It has plans to enter other international markets shortly.
Str8bat has sold approximately 18,000 sensors in India alone and has recorded over two million shots using its sensor technology. With around 400 elite players already on its platform, Str8bat plans to reach over a million players within five years.
To support this vision, Str8bat’s mobile app connects players with top coaches globally, providing advanced cricket performance tracking and personalized recommendations based on real-time data analytics.
Sports Tech Sector Sees Increased Investor Interest
Investors are increasingly drawn to the sports tech sector as technological innovation reshapes how athletes train and improve performance. In May, Stupa Sports Analytics raised INR 28 crore, followed by SportVot, which secured Rs 9.4 crore in Series A funding in February.
Former cricketer Anil Kumble’s startup Spektacom also launched the PowerBat sensor to provide contextual insights into batting. Str8bat’s rapid growth positions it at the forefront of this booming sector, particularly in cricket performance tracking and real-time data analytics for sports.
The funding will allow Str8bat to accelerate its product innovation and roll out new features that push the boundaries of sports technology. By enabling deeper insights into cricket analytics and expanding its global reach, Str8bat is well-positioned to become a leader in real-time sports data.
The company aspires to serve cricketers worldwide, democratizing access to high-quality coaching and performance tracking through its innovative smart bat technology.
“Their strategic partnerships, especially in cricket, enhance their credibility and fast-track their go-to-market strategy. We are thrilled to support their journey in redefining players’ performance on a global scale,” said Shailesh Ghorpade.
