Pune-based logistics startup Xpressbees has raised an $80 million investment from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan’s venture arm, TVG, catapulting the company into a new global expansion and innovation phase. The investment marks Ontario Teachers’ entry into India’s startup ecosystem and empowers Xpressbees to innovate further and expand its logistics industry reach.
With a steadfast valuation of $1.4 billion, the logistics startup will leverage the recent investment to fuel its global aspirations. Having amassed over $600 million in capital since its inception in 2015, the startup is mulling expansion. Despite increased losses, Xpressbees remains resolute in diversifying its services and solidifying its position in the fiercely competitive logistics startup landscape.
Xpressbees, renowned for its daily delivery of over 1.5 million packages spanning 5,000 cities and towns, is geared for growth through strategic acquisitions. Building on its recent integration of TrackOn, the startup has ventured into customer-to-customer (C2C) courier services. Additionally, its subsidiary, NimbusPost, offers a cutting-edge SaaS-based shipping aggregation platform, enhancing its service spectrum.
“We believe the logistics sector is at the cusp of technological disruption, and this is the right time to expand service offerings to address the growing needs of businesses and consumers. We are elated to partner with the TVG team, who bring rich experience and a vast global network to help scale our end-to-end platform to cater to the next level,” Amitava Saha, Founder & CEO of Xpressbees, said.
Global Alliances and Market Dynamics
The infusion of funds from TVG adds to Xpressbees’ impressive roster of supporters, including Blackstone, TPG, and Alibaba Group. In a landscape dominated by industry behemoths, Xpressbees competes fervently through its B2C Express, B2B Express, third-party logistics (3PL), cross-border operations, and SME courier services. The startup plans substantial expansion with an extensive network comprising 52 airports and over 100 hubs across India.
Acknowledging the imminent technological revolution in the logistics sector, Xpressbees is proactively adapting to meet the evolving needs of businesses and consumers. The collaboration with TVG brings substantial capital, invaluable experience, and a global network, essential components for propelling Xpressbees’ innovative initiatives and expansion plans.
“Led by a strong team, Xpressbees has established a highly scalable and efficient asset-light model with proven execution capabilities. We are delighted to partner with Amitava (Saha) and the Xpressbess team in executing their vision to build an industry-leading business,” said Deepak Dara, Senior Managing Director and Head of India at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan’s investment is a testament to Xpressbees’ potential as a leading logistics startup. With a robust financial foundation, a focus on innovation, and strategic alliances, Xpressbees is well-equipped to redefine the future of the logistics industry on a global scale.
