Indian superfood brand, Nourish You has raised $2 million in a Seed funding round from a marquee of investors, including Y Janardhana Rao of Triumph Group; Rohit Chennamaneni, co-founder of Darwinbox, and Nikhil Kamath, co-founder, Zerodha, among others.
Rakesh Kilaru, co-founder and chief executive officer of Nourish You, said, “The fundraise will help us expand our team, distribution channels and increase our investment in R&D. It will accelerate growth and cement our position as a preferred brand for Superfoods in India.”
By providing indigenous super seeds, Nourish You claims to have established the category of Superfoods in India. Along with its retail operations in India, the company also exports its breakfast cereals and edible seeds to Singapore, Nepal, Kenya, Dubai, Mongolia, and the Maldives.
Nourish You products are offered on its website and popular e-commerce sites like Amazon, Flipkart, and Big Basket, among others. The business contends with several rivals, including Jiwa, Slurrp Farms, and True Elements.
Nourish You helps modern consumers move to a healthy lifestyle with plant-based Superfoods. It was founded to build a sustainable future where everyone is the healthiest version of themselves.
Nourish You is India’s first superfood startup
Nourish You, an Indian company founded in 2015 by Sowmya Reddy, Krishna Reddy, and Rakesh Kilaru, claims to have introduced quinoa and chia seeds, two domestic superfoods, to Indian customers.
Rohit Chennamaneni, the co-founder of Darwinbox, said, “Even though I have been using Nourish You products for more than five years, it’s only now I got to understand the fascinating story of Rakesh and his team bringing Quinoa and Chia to India way back in 2013.”
“From getting the mother seed, government approvals, to field trials across India and finally large-scale cultivation of Quinoa and Chia. As a category-creating brand, Nourish You’s proposition of homegrown chia and quinoa seeds is attractive,” he added.
Quinoa and chia seeds cultivated at home and sold by Nourish You are marketed as being the first superfoods in India.
The company’s fundamental beliefs include environmental sustainability, clean-label products, veganism, fair trade with farmers, and clean-label products.
The foodtech company started with 50 to 5000 acres of chia and quinoa farms in Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Rajasthan. Superfoods were first introduced to India by Nourish You, which is still helping the nation transition from a net importer of quinoa and chia to an exporter.
